This month, we’re proud to introduce Tamer Mansour, one of the new Career Start GPs that is taking Sunderland GP Alliance from strength to strength.

Tamer’s career began in 2003 as a graduate of the Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. Following his academic years, Tamer additionally worked for a series of different medical roles, including healthcare specialist for BUPA in Saudi Arabia.

Subsequent to his UK move in 2010, Tamer began employment as a Senior House Officer for a general surgery in Boston Lincolnshire, following this, he later applied for a foundation year 2 stand-alone in Darlington.

A desire for closer interaction with patients saw Tamer step aside from his role as a hospital doctor, putting forward an application for the GP Vocational Training Scheme, which allowed him to relocate within the Durham and Tees Valley region. For Tamer, having access to his patients all the way through their treatments with follow up reviews, meant that his additional three years of training was fully justified and would set him apart from a lot of hospital doctors.

At the end of his GP training, Tamer attended a career seminar which gave him insight into GP Career Start. Although inundated with a lot of career options, Tamer was attracted towards work with Career Start; finding he could embark on his further studies whilst working and benefit both his medical knowledge and speciality.

Presently, Tamer works towards earning his diploma in palliative care and hopes to have achieved this within his first year of studying with Career Start. He later hopes to earn a secondary diploma the following year.

Tamer enjoys holidays with his wife and two children exploring the UK and admits to being an avid table tennis player.
