Angela joins Sunderland GP Alliance as a Clinical Pharmacist after previously working in both hospital and community pharmacy for the last 25 years, gaining a wealth of experience. She is looking forward to utilising this experience within her patient facing role as Clinical Pharmacist in a GP surgery setting.

After qualifying as a Pharmacist from Sunderland Polytechnic (as it was then) in 1991 she went to Bishop Auckland hospital for her pre-registration year and ended up staying there 10 years. During her time there she was seconded to Winterton psychiatric hospital, became a pharmacy inspector for nursing homes in North Durham and worked in women and children’s services for a while. After 10 years she felt it was time for a change and moved into community pharmacy in Shildon where she has worked for the last 15 years building relationships with patients and the local surgeries and nursing teams.

Angela applied for the role of Clinical Pharmacist with Sunderland GP Alliance because she liked the idea that the role is patient focused and will involve working with the patient to make informed choices around their medication. She hopes to become an integral part of the team in the GP surgery and to raise awareness of the skills Pharmacists have to offer both to patients and to other members of the healthcare team.

Angela is looking forward to developing her role as a Clinical Pharmacist in general practice as part of the NHS England pilot scheme. She believes that by utilising a Pharmacist’s skillsets to their full potential it will alleviate some of the workload for the GPs and other staff within the practice. Pharmacy as a profession can offer so much more than just a supply function and this role will help demonstrate this.

Angela has two children, a girl aged 8 and a boy 2, when she isn’t chauffeuring them around to various activities she enjoys playing tennis and keeping fit by swimming and running. She is also a keen skier and pre children used to enjoy long haul holidays, especially with her husband running his own travel agency. She hopes to resume these holidays when the children are a little bit older.
