Christina Gkali, Clinical Pharmacist

Christina started her career after graduating from the University of Sunderland and completing her pre-registration training. At the beginning she was working as a locum pharmacist for several multi-chain and independent community pharmacies within the North East.

Prior to joining Sunderland GP Alliance, Christina was working with North of England Commissioning Support (NECS) as a practice pharmacist in several GP practices in Durham and in Newcastle. She has been working on numerous different areas depending on the needs of each GP practice, such as cost-savings and medicines optimisation, medication reconciliation, medicines safety and clinical medication reviews.

She has recently obtained a Business and Management post-graduate master from the University of Sunderland with distinction. This has allowed her to explore her passion for Business and Management with a special interest in project management, organisational performance and management of personnel.

Christina understands the future of the clinical pharmacists in primary care and can see the potential benefits that can be obtained. Through her experience, she gained an insight on how practices work and the contributions that a pharmacist can bring into the general practice team.

In her role she aims to develop her career by improving her skills and knowledge further, as well as gaining an in depth experience in different clinical areas. One of her main priorities is the completion of an independent prescribing course.

Christina has a love of dance and has been taught different styles of dancing. She has been ballet-dancing since she was 5 years old for a period of around 12 years and has performed in music hall theatres.

Being from Greece, Christina loves exploring various Greek islands, as well as cooking and baking delicious Greek recipes. In her spare time, she really enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her family and friends.
