Sunderland People First, a self-advocacy group for people with learning difficulties, are working with GP Practices across the city to roll out Safe Places. The Safe Place Scheme aims to provide vulnerable people with support if they are out and about and are worried or upset, and is working with shops, businesses and health services to develop a network of Safe Places across the city.

The Safe Place Scheme has been developed by people with a learning disability and all training sessions are delivered by advocates.

Sunderland People First have reported a fantastic response to the training session with Practice Managers at the Stadium of Light in September, and have been overwhelmed by the number of practices that have requested to be part of the scheme. As such, they have asked us to pass on their thanks to Sunderland GP Alliance members for supporting the Safe Place Scheme.

If you would like to know more about the scheme please contact Sunderland People First.
